Syracuse University’s Department of Public Safety said it is actively investigating multiple reports of criminal activity and vehicle larcenies around the 100 and 200 blocks of Comstock Avenue in a campus-wide email Friday.

DPS suggested that students living in off-campus neighborhoods remain alert for suspicious activity.

The email also advised people living off-campus to park their vehicles in familiar, lighted areas and lock all windows and doors. Valuable items should be secure and out of plain sight in vehicles, and they should not be left running unattended.

DPS may only exercise law enforcement authority while within its jurisdiction, including the university’s perimeter and streets adjacent to SU’s property.

To report a crime outside of DPS jurisdiction, a report can be filed online through the Syracuse Police Department. SPD can also be reached at (315) 422-5200.

Anyone with information regarding recent crimes can contact DPS at (315) 443-2224. Non-emergency information can be reported through the Silent Witness tool.
