Graduate student attacker Emma Ward was named Inside Lacrosse’s Co-Player of the Week alongside James Madison’s Maddie Epke, it announced Wednesday. The honor comes after Ward’s seven-point performance helped then-No. 6 Syracuse down then-No. 7 Maryland 15-9 on Saturday.

Against the Terrapins, Ward got going early. She either scored or assisted the Orange’s first five goals to give them a 5-1 lead midway through the first quarter. Ward set up shop at X and went to work, driving past UMD’s Kennedy Major for the game’s first score, then dishing to Olivia Adamson to make it 2-1. She capped her run with a nifty behind-the-back score.

Ward was largely quiet in the second half after the Terrapins double-teamed her heavily. But she still tacked on two more points, including another behind-the-back feed to Caroline Trinkaus for the freshman’s second goal of the game. She also added five points versus Cornell Tuesday, propelling the Orange to a comfortable 18-10 victory.

This season, Ward has been thrust into a bigger role with the departures of Emma Tyrrell and Natalie Smith, among others, on offense. But after finishing third on the team with 81 points (44 goals, 37 assists) in 2024, she’s been just as strong this season with a team-leading 17 points through three games.
