Former Kansas City Chiefs assistant Pat Perles is the Orange’s new offensive line coach, SU Athletics announced on its website late Friday afternoon.

“I have followed Pat’s career for years and have been thoroughly impressed with the way his kids play for him,” head coach Scott Shafer said in the press release. “He brings a high degree of toughness and attitude as an offensive line coach.”

He replaces Greg Adkins, who joined former head coach Doug Marrone with the Buffalo Bills. Perles met with SU guard recruit Alex Hayes earlier this week.

Perles was the Chiefs assistant offensive line coach from 2010-11. In 2009 he was Kansas City’s defensive quality control coach. He is the son of Michigan State coach George Perles.

Previous coaching stints for Perles include North Dakota State from 2003-08, as an offensive coordinator from 2005-08, Michigan State from 2000-02 as tight ends coach, the Los Angeles Rams from 1992-93 as an assistant and scout and Toledo from 1989-91. He also coached the Saskatchewan Roughriders, Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Hamilton Tiger Cats of the Canadian Football league.

Perles played for Michigan State in the 1984 Cherry Bowl and 1985 Hall of Fame Bowl.
